Mewtwo is back, and this time it’s channeling old-school VSTAR energy. The Pokémon TCG’s 30th Celebration expansion introduces a brand-new Mewtwo ex — a Futuristic Rare card illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN — that pays homage to Mewtwo VSTAR’s iconic board-wipe potential from years past.

The card’s signature move, Photon Bullets, deals 50 damage to every single one of your opponent’s Pokémon ex — a callback to Mewtwo VSTAR’s Star Raid attack that hit for 120 damage across all Pokémon V. That kind of spread damage makes this deck a genuine nightmare for meta strategies built around stacking multiple ex Pokémon, like Basic Box decks.

The strategy is refreshingly aggressive: use Team Rocket’s Petrel early to dig for Precious Trolley, which helps fill your Bench with Mewtwo ex, Mewtwo, Latias ex, Lillie’s Clefairy ex, and Shuppet. Done right, you should be taking Prize cards by turn two. Bring in Unown later in the game once opponents’ Pokémon are already softened up, letting Mysterious Signal finish them off.

Matchup-wise, this deck eats Fighting-type decks like Mega Lucario ex alive thanks to Psychic-type advantage, and Dragapult ex takes double damage when Lillie’s Clefairy ex is on the field. The catch: single-Prize attackers like Alakazam and Slowking dodge Photon Bullets entirely, and N’s Zoroark ex — one of the strongest decks in the current meta — deals double damage back to Mewtwo ex as a Darkness-type.

Why This Deck Works?

Photon Bullets punishes meta decks that lean on multiple ex Pokémon, turning board presence into a liability for your opponent instead of an advantage.
