If you’ve been playing Path of Exile since forever, you know the sacred rule: six links is the ceiling. But with the arrival of 3.28 Mirage League, Grinding Gear Games has quietly broken that rule — and the community is buzzing. Welcome to the era of pseudo 7-links.

A pseudo 7-link is when a Level 20 skill gem is corrupted using a new Coin currency from the Mirage League. The Coin embeds a random Support Gem effect as a permanent enchantment directly onto the skill gem — essentially giving it a 7th link without needing a 7th socket.

🔮 Step 1: Farm Coins in Mirage

Before entering a Mirage, choose one of Varashta’s three wishes — Sand, Fire, or Water. Each wish gives monsters in the Mirage a chance to drop the corresponding colored Coin.

💎 Step 2: Level Your Skill Gem to 20

The Coin only works on Level 20 skill gems. Anything below simply won’t interact. Plan accordingly and don’t burn a Coin too early.

⚗️ Step 3: Corrupt Your Gem with the Coin

Apply the Coin to your Level 20 gem to permanently imbue it with a random Support effect of the matching attribute type. Think of it like a Vaal Orb — but laser-focused on Support Gem enchantments.

✅ Step 4: Build Around It

The enchanted support functions like an actual linked support gem. Choose the right Coin color for your build — a Blue Coin on a Lightning Arrow can add Faster Attacks for free, pushing your DPS without giving up a socket.

Why This Matters for Your Build

This is a genuine build-defining mechanic — not just a minor buff. Getting the right Support enchantment can free up a socket for another utility gem, tighten your link setup, and push min-maxed builds into entirely new territory. It’s not easy to farm the right Coin, but when it lands? Absolutely worth it.

FAQs

Q: Can you use two Mirage Coins on the same item to get pseudo 8-links in PoE 3.28?

A: No — GGG has restricted this. You can only have one imbued (Coin-corrupted) skill gem active per link setup to prevent stacking abuse.

Q: What happens if you use the wrong color Coin on your skill gem in PoE 3.28?

A: Each Coin only works on gems of its matching attribute color — a Red (Strength) Coin simply won’t apply to a Green or Blue skill gem.
