What Exactly Is Save the World?

Before “dropping from the Battle Bus” was a cultural moment, Fortnite was a four-player co-op survival game where squads build bases, gather resources, and fight off waves of zombie-like monsters called Husks. Think Minecraft meets Left 4 Dead — that’s the vibe. Epic first unveiled the concept back in 2011, launched it in paid Early Access in 2017, and quietly shelved the free-to-play plans in 2020. Now, almost six years later, that reversal is complete.

Pre-Register Now for Free Rewards 🎁

Epic is rewarding early sign-ups through a community milestone system — the more players pre-register, the bigger the rewards for everyone:

  • 🥉 300,000 registrations → Save the World Jess Banner
  • 🥈 700,000 registrations → Kyle’s Construction Spray
  • 🥇 1,000,000 registrations → Snowstrike Hero (exclusive to Save the World — not usable in Battle Royale)

Current players also get a loyalty bonus on April 16: Superchargers, Vouchers, and Gold as a thank-you for nine years of holding back the horde.

What About Existing Founders?

This is the question every long-time STW player has been asking — and the answer is reassuring. Founders keep their V-Bucks earnings through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense Missions, and existing challenges. New free-to-play players, however, will not earn V-Bucks — a clear distinction Epic has drawn to protect the investment of those who paid.
