Waiting for [GTA 6](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_VI) is hard enough. Waiting for a huge download on launch night makes it worse. The good news is that Rockstar is giving you a head start, and we now have a clearer picture of how much space you’ll need.

## When Does Pre-Load Start?

Pre-loading opens at **midnight local time on November 12, 2026**, exactly one week before launch. Because it follows your own time zone, players in different countries get access at different moments. Pre-loading only downloads and installs the files. The game stays locked until the official unlock on November 19.

## How Big Is the GTA 6 Download?

A PlayStation Store tracker called PlayStation Game Size reports the Standard Edition at **210 GB on PS5**. That’s roughly a quarter of a standard console’s storage. Xbox Series X|S players should expect something similar, although the Xbox Store only shows a placeholder figure.

One important caution: **Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed the size.** Treat 210 GB as a solid planning number, not a final one. A day-one patch on release day is also likely.

## Who Can Pre-Load?

- **Digital buyers:** Pre-order from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, then wait for midnight on November 12.
- **Boxed buyers:** Physical copies come with a **download code instead of a game disc**. Redeem it, and you can pre-load from November 12. Watch your delivery date, because a late code could cost you pre-load time.
- **PC players:** A PC edition is expected in early 2027, so this timeline doesn’t apply to you yet.

## Get Ready Now: A Quick Checklist

With about two weeks to go, a little prep makes launch night easy:

1. **Free up space.** Aim for well over 210 GB, to leave room for patches and updates.
2. **Check your connection.** A wired link beats Wi-Fi for large downloads.
3. **Redeem your code early.** Boxed buyers should do this as soon as it arrives.
4. **Turn on auto-updates.** Let your console handle the day-one patch.
5. **Keep your console on.** Rest mode helps downloads finish overnight.

## The Bottom Line

Pre-loading means launch night is about playing, not watching a progress bar. Clear the space, secure your copy and be ready when the clock strikes midnight on November 12.
