A Living Florida, Not Just Scenery
Rockstar’s vice president of dynamic art, Michael Kane, said the team wanted to include Florida’s diverse animal life across Leonida’s different biomes. That covers cities and countryside, inland and ocean waters, and wetlands like the swamps and Everglades. The goal seems to be a world where wildlife feels like part of the place, not decoration.
The Animals We Know So Far
Rockstar hasn’t named every species, but several are confirmed or reported:
- Land: feral cats, armadillos, rhesus macaques and more than 30 land mammals in total
- Reptiles and amphibians: alligators, iguanas, cane toads
- Birds: flamingos, pelicans and a list of 60+ types
- Water: manatees, several types of sharks, whales, rays, turtles and jellyfish
The mix includes both native and invasive species, which fits the Florida theme. Sea creatures will reportedly have their own distinct ways of moving instead of sharing the same basic animation.
Hunting for Rare Finds
Animal tracking is back, with three tiers: Rare, Discoverable and Legendary. That suggests dedicated hunts for special creatures, a feature fans of Rockstar’s earlier open-world games will remember. Animals are also said to show details like bioluminescence, translucency and iridescence, with improved fur, hair and feather systems.
