If your hits in Aion 2 suddenly feel weak, or you can’t work out why a tank shrugs off your damage, the answer is probably Block and Parry. Here’s how they work, who can use them, and how to get around them.

Table of Contents
Aion 2: Block vs Parry at a Glance
| Mechanic | Who Gets It | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Block | Shield classes (Templar, Cleric) | Cuts incoming damage when triggered |
| Parry | Shield classes and other classes | Cuts incoming damage and, for some melee DPS, can enable follow-up skills |
| Evasion | Everyone | Makes attacks miss completely, and is checked before Block |
Both Block and Parry reduce a hit to roughly one third of its normal damage. That’s a huge loss if you’re a DPS, and a huge win if you’re defending.

How the Check Works
Aion 2 resolves an attack in layers:
- Evasion first. Your attack has to land.
- Block next. Even a hit that lands can still be blocked.
- Parry as the alternative. Classes without a shield can only parry.
Accuracy alone won’t beat Block. What counts is your Accuracy combined with Block Penetration, measured against the enemy’s Block value. If you’re running into a wall of reduced damage on bosses or tanky players, check your Block Penetration sub-stat before blaming your rotation.
The Easiest Fix: Get Behind Them
Aion 2 mixes tab-target combat with action-style positioning. Attacking from behind bypasses Evasion and Block, and it also earns a damage bonus. Many bosses are tuned around frontal defenses, so a rotation that looks weak from the front can look very different from the back.
| Situation | What to Do |
|---|---|
| Boss keeps reducing your hits | Move to its back and attack from there |
| Fighting a shield class in PvP | Flank, and stack Accuracy plus Block Penetration |
| Boss has high Block or Evasion | Use skills that ignore those defenses, if your class has them |
Some class skills are said to ignore Block and Evasion, but check the skill tooltip in-game for your class. Patches change numbers often.
Using Block and Parry Yourself
If you play a shield class: Your Block is a core tool, not a bonus. Pair it with defensive buffs and keep your positioning clean.
If you play a non-shield melee class: You can only parry, and parrying often works best as part of your skill chains. Many kits include a defensive chain with a short parry window, and missing the window resets the chain. So practice the rhythm instead of mashing buttons.
For everyone: Dodge still matters. The active directional dodge is what gets you out of telegraphed AoEs, while Block and Parry soften the hits you can’t avoid.
Keybinds and skill names differ by class and patch, so check your own hotbar and skill descriptions for the exact inputs.
Common Mistakes
- Stacking only Accuracy and ignoring Block Penetration
- Standing in front of bosses out of habit
- Treating Block and Parry as the same thing when only some classes get both
- Ignoring chain windows, which wastes your parry setups
