The Abundant Evil side quest (officially called a “Myth” in Nioh 3) is one of the game’s most rewarding yokai elimination missions, unlocking immediately after completing The Hamamatsu Incident main quest. Available in the Maisaka region during the Warring States period, this two-part investigation mission alongside Honda Tadakatsu culminates in a thrilling boss battle against the aerial yokai Hino-Enma in the Haunting Caves. Here’s your complete step-by-step guide to conquering this quest and rescuing the missing Sudama.

Enemy Base Strategy

Head west into the base with Honda supporting you. Follow this combat sequence:

  1. Eliminate patrol yokai first to avoid being surrounded
  2. Target the Gaki Chief lying on the ground to the south—use your bow to neutralize the two small enemies (one grounded, one on the roof) before engaging
  3. Defeat the Gaki Chief with Honda’s assistance (use hit-and-run tactics)
  4. Continue west to clear three easy enemies
  5. Beware of Nozuchi in the western segment—this yokai hits hard, so maintain distance
  6. Enter the large house for the final yokai encounter

After defeating all 10 enemies, loot the large chest and speak with Honda Tadakatsu to trigger the second phase.

Part 2: Investigating Enshu Coast & Haunting Caves

Honda will send you southeast toward the coastal area. This segment involves cave exploration and culminates in a boss encounter.

  • Defeat Sunakake-baba yokai near the objective location
  • Cross the broken ship on your left to reach the Enshu Coast shrine (rest here!)
  • Head east through enemy-filled territory until you reach a cave entrance
  • Locate Chamber of Enlightenment shrine inside the cave
  • Continue east to find numerous Sudama creatures on the ground
  • Crouch through the hole and follow the pathway
  • Battle Nure-Onna and additional yokai along the route
  • Proceed north past mining yokai to reach an open area

Boss Fight: Hino-Enma (Kyokotsu Form)

In the open cavern area, you’ll face Hino-Enma, an agile flying yokai with devastating Burst Break attacks. This boss is actually referred to as Kyokotsu in some game guides.

Winning Strategy

Hino-Enma’s attacks are highly telegraphed, making her easier than she appears:

  • Opening Move: She immediately launches a straight-line Burst Break—wait until the last second and Burst Counter for massive damage
  • Primary Attack Pattern: Straight-line dive bombs (very predictable)
  • Close-Range Threat: Umbrella swipe when you’re near her
  • Key Tactic: Master the Burst Counter timing on her aerial dives to create consistent damage windows

The fight becomes a rhythm game—bait the dive, counter, punish, repeat. Honda Tadakatsu doesn’t accompany you here, so bring healing items and Guardian Spirit skills.

After defeating Hino-Enma, take the northeastern pathway to locate the missing Sudama and trigger Nekomata’s dialogue sequence.

Quest Completion & Rewards

Fast travel to the Maisaka Post shrine, head west, and speak with Honda Tadakatsu to conclude the quest. Completing Abundant Evil unlocks two new side quests:

  • Becoming Champion of the East
  • Headaches

You’ll also receive rare equipment, crafting materials, and valuable experience toward your Arts Proficiency progression.
