Most sects in Where Winds Meet are about swords, strategy, and dominance. The Masked Troupe breaks every convention. Instead of martial arts, this performance-focused sect centers around music, dance, and community — its members are entertainers first, taking on the role of roaming virtuosos rather than traditional fighters. It’s the Jianghu’s most unconventional faction, and joining it is unlike anything else in the game.

How to Join the Masked Troupe — Two Ways

 Where Winds Meet

Method 1 — Standard Path (Han Yanluo) You must be at least level 10 and in Online mode. Find Han Yanluo on a small boat in Fairgrounds, Kaifeng City, perform a dance or instrument for other players, receive at least one Like, then return to Han Yanluo to complete the initiation.

Method 2 — Event Shortcut (Show of Splendor) Completing just one quest from the Show of Splendor event unlocks the Invitation Letter from The Masked Troupe as a claimable reward. Travel to Crimson Cliff, find NPC Weeping Makeup near a pond, present your Invitation Letter, and select “Come” three times to join instantly.

Rank Progression & Rewards

All members of the Masked Troupe are collectively known as Virtuosos, with progression structured into five distinct ranks — each unlocking exclusive titles and items in the Sect Shop. Reaching the rank of Standing Musician unlocks exclusive hairstyles and armor pieces. Importantly, cosmetic items you purchase stay in your possession even if you later leave the sect.

The top title — Music Director — is elected weekly. Only Music Officers can run in elections, and current Music Directors are prohibited from participating, keeping competition fresh each week.

This is one of the most social expressions of massively multiplayer online role-playing game faction design in recent memory — reputation is built through performance, not combat.

Rules Every Virtuoso Must Follow

The Masked Troupe’s rules are straightforward but strictly enforced while playing online. No begging in public areas. No partnership emotes — couple poses and romantic displays are forbidden. No getting married while in the sect. Full outfit required at all times. If you’re caught violating these rules, you lose precept value with the sect.

Violating these guidelines triggers an NPC to appear — to prevent exposure, members must use Tai Chi to throw the NPC into the water, maintaining the sect’s secrecy. Yes, really.

Is the Masked Troupe Worth Joining?

For players who want a social, creativity-focused sect experience rather than a combat-oriented one, the Masked Troupe offers something genuinely different. The group promotion mechanic and weekly elections keep it dynamic — though solo players should know that engagement with other members is essentially required to progress.

If you already play for the roleplay and community side of Where Winds Meet, this is your home. If you’re combat-first, it’s still worth a visit for the exclusive cosmetics.
