Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Step 1 — Trigger the Quest
To trigger this Encounter, approach Granny Yang in Poplar Bazaar located west of Jade Gate Pass — you can see her immediately by riding west toward the Poplar Bazaar Boundary Stone. Destructoid Talk to her and drink from the well behind her to begin.
Step 2 — Heal Granny Yang
After interacting with the well, the scenery will change and time will appear to have passed. You’ll find Granny Yang sitting in front of the well, suffering from heatstroke. Heal her to learn what happened — you need at least 1,000 Mastery Points in the Healer Profession to successfully treat her.
Use Wind Sense to detect her injury, then use Quick Treatment or manually treat her by playing the minigame.
Step 3 — Win the Gift of Gab Duel
Speak to the group of arguing merchants, then debate Shi Hedan in a Gift of Gab duel. After you beat him, speak to him and the other merchants again, then speak individually to Granny Yang, Kang Mingluo, and Shi Hedan to gather information.
Step 4 — Find the Poplar Leaf Ledger
Head north to look for the ledger. Near NPC Wei Xuan, drop into the hole in the broken wooden platform, then pick up the Poplar Leaf Ledger. Return to Kang Mingluo and show it to her.
Step 5 — Climb the Poplar Tree
Follow the quest marker and use triple jumping and wall running to climb up the poplar tree to the highest branch — there are spots to stand and wait for your stamina to recover. At the top, open the Old Worn-out Box and take Kang Zhenzhu’s Journal IV. You’ll automatically return to the camp.
Step 6 — Final Act
Submit the Fallen Soldier’s Register to Kang Mingluo. Next, go to the marked vantage point and inspect the four points overlooking Poplar Bazaar. Granny Yang will suddenly take off — follow her to the base of the Poplar Tree, take Kang Zhenzhu’s Journal V by the well, and listen to the closing cutscene to finish the quest.
