Three Ways to Play DMZ
8 There are three distinct ways to tackle DMZ: Story Missions, Dynamic Ops, and Free Roam.
- Story Missions — 5These narrative-centric missions move the central narrative of the entire mode forward, and other players will also match in the server with the same story mission.
- Dynamic Ops — 5These are similar in that you’ll be in a world with others on the same operation, but the steps you take to get to the final result are randomized, bringing an element of replayability.
- Free Roam — 8Free Roam gives you the freedom to decide what you want to do — focus on looting, getting kills, or even interfering with other squads.

The Bounty System — Kill or Be Hunted
This is where things get spicy. 2If you decide to gun down every player you come across, DMZ’s bounty system can make life hard for you. As you defeat more players, you build notoriety, which increases the price on your head.5 To push this mechanic further, there will be a weekly leaderboard for the top 50 wanted players and the top 50 bounty hunters. Imagine being COD’s Most Wanted — thrilling and terrifying.
The Forward Operating Base (FOB)
2 The Forward Operating Base (FOB) is the central hub for all DMZ players, built around preparation and progression. You’ll return here before and after every match to access crafting systems like the 3D Printer, store items in the Stash, purchase weapons, and use services such as the firing range, bounty boards, and other upgrade systems. The FOB also acts as a social and staging area where squads regroup. 2 Players can create multiple Operators using the returning Active Duty slot system. Each Operator carries a persistent loadout and backpack across deployments, and you can further customize them through the Trait System.
Why Isn’t DMZ Free This Time?
