If you’re excited to replay one of the best games in the series, you might be wondering whether Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remastered (sometimes called “Resynced” by fans) still requires Ubisoft Connect when bought on Steam.
The answer is yes. Even in 2026, you must have a Ubisoft Connect account to play the game on Steam.

Assassin’s Creed Ubisoft Connect Requirement Breakdown
| Platform | Ubisoft Connect Required? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | Yes | Must link Ubisoft account on first launch |
| Ubisoft Store | Yes | Runs through Ubisoft Connect launcher |
| Epic Games | Yes | Also requires Ubisoft account linking |
When you launch the game through Steam for the first time, it will automatically open Ubisoft Connect and ask you to log in or create an account. Once linked, the game runs smoothly, and you usually won’t need to log in every single time.
Key Things to Know:
- You cannot skip Ubisoft Connect entirely.
- Cloud saves, achievements, and some features are tied to your Ubisoft account.
- The remastered version still uses the same launcher system as the original 2013 release.
- Offline mode is supported after the initial account linking.
Many players were hoping the remastered edition would become fully Steam-native, but Ubisoft has kept its long-standing policy of requiring its own launcher for all Assassin’s Creed titles.
Pro Tip: During the first login, make sure to check “Remember me” so you don’t have to sign in repeatedly.
