Valheim does not completely prevent you from entering more dangerous regions early, but each boss normally provides an item, recipe, or capability that makes the next stage significantly more manageable — making understanding the boss order one of the simplest ways to avoid hitting progression walls.

All Valheim Bosses — At a Glance

3 Valheim has 7 main bosses, one per biome, and they must be killed in order — each drops a unique material that gates progression to the next biome. With 1.0 launching September 9, 2026, an eighth boss arrives in the Deep North!

Boss 1: Eikthyr — Meadows

5 A stag with lightning attacks, Eikthyr is summoned at the sacrificial stones using 2 Deer Trophies. Use a bow and dodge his lightning AoE. His drop — Hard Antler — lets you craft the Antler Pickaxe, and his Forsaken Power reduces stamina drain while running and jumping.

Boss 2: The Elder — Black Forest

5 A giant tree creature, find his location with Vegvisir runestones in Burial Chambers and summon him with 3 Ancient Seeds from Greydwarf nests. Use fire arrows — he is weak to fire — and dodge his root attacks and stomp. He drops the Swamp Key, which opens Sunken Crypts.

Boss 3: Bonemass — Swamp

2 The primary Bonemass weakness is Blunt and Frost damage — an Iron Mace is one of the best realistic weapons for players following normal biome progression. 3 Bonemass drops the Wishbone, which is essential for finding Silver in the Mountains

Boss 4: Moder — Mountain

2 Moder comes after Bonemass. The Wishbone obtained from Bonemass helps locate Silver deposits, supporting the equipment progression needed for the Mountains. 3 Defeating Moder unlocks the Artisan Table.

Boss 5: Yagluth — Plains

4 Swap Forsaken Powers for the task — Yagluth and Bonemass are ideal for tough fights. 3 Yagluth in the Plains gates entry into the Mistlands — one of the game’s most hostile and visually striking biomes.

💡 Combat Tip: 8Use fire arrows for The Elder and the Iron Mace for Bonemass — bringing the wrong damage type is the most common reason a fight feels impossible!

Boss 6: The Queen — Mistlands

3 The Queen, with 18,000 HP in the Mistlands, drops the Sealbreaker — your ticket into the Ashlands. She is the most technically demanding boss before Fader and requires top-tier Mistlands gear to survive.

Boss 7: Fader — Ashlands (Current Final Boss)

6 Fader is the seventh and currently final boss, added with the Ashlands update. It’s summoned with 3 Bells and sits at a punishing 25,000 HP — five times Bonemass. By the time you reach Fader you should be in Flametal gear, and fittingly, Fader’s Forsaken Power grants +100% Adrenaline gain and −50% fire damage.

Boss 8: Deep North Boss — Valheim 1.0 (NEW!)

8 The Deep North biome is set to arrive with Valheim’s 1.0 release on September 9, 2026, and is expected to add the eighth Forsaken boss — though Iron Gate has not confirmed the boss’s name or summon items yet. 8 If you want to be ready the day it launches, the smart move is to finish Fader now and stockpile Flametal gear, since Deep North content will almost certainly build on the Ashlands tier rather than reset it.

Forsaken Powers — Use Them Wisely

3 Every boss grants a Forsaken Power on death — a 5-minute buff with 20-minute cooldown that you can activate at any ancient altar.
