Between the Shroud and the monsters, Enshrouded has a calm side: fishing. Better yet, it’s useful, since fish provide materials for recipes and progression. Here’s how to get a rod, find bait and start reeling.

Step 1: Get Your First Rod
Open your Craft menu and make a Simple Fishing Rod from the materials above. You can also craft rods at the Hunter NPC. Alternatively, start the Unknown Waters quest, which rewards a Simple Fishing Rod, the Simple Fishing Bait recipe and 150 XP.
Step 2: Find Bait
You can’t cast without bait. There are two kinds:
- Wild bait: Fireflies appear in the Springlands at night and help catch common fish. Moths in Revelwood at night help with uncommon fish, and grasshoppers can be found in the Nomad Highlands.
- Crafted bait: Simple, Common, Uncommon, Rare and Epic tiers each improve your odds of catching fish of that rarity.

Step 3: Cast and Reel
- Find a fishing hotspot, marked by ripples or fish activity near the shore.
- Equip your rod and right-click it to choose bait.
- Left-click to cast, then left-click again when a fish bites to reel it in.
If you’re doing Unknown Waters, you can catch your first fish near Ferndale, then return to Atalan the Hunter with your catch to finish the quest.
Step 4: Upgrade for Rarer Fish
The Nice Day for Fishing quest, given by the Fisher, grants the Excellent Fishing Rod and unlocks bait recipes from Common to Epic. It’s the key to your best catches.

- Collect critters: Insects and amphibians around Embervale can become bait ingredients.
