Pokémon just turned its 1000th monster into literal treasure. To mark this landmark, the franchise has partnered with a Japanese gold brand to create a real, solid-gold Gholdengo — and yes, it’s priced like actual gold.

A Coin-Based Pokémon Gets the Ultimate Gold Treatment
Japanese gold brand SGC has crafted a 24-karat solid gold Gholdengo figure, standing just 6 cm tall and weighing around 15 grams. It’s priced at ¥1,540,000 — roughly $9,000–10,000. The tiny collectible will debut at The Great Gold Exhibition on the 8th floor of Yokohama Takashimaya, Japan, running September 30 to October 5, 2026.
The choice makes sense lore-wise: Gholdengo evolves from Gimmighoul after collecting 999 coins, and its signature ability is literally called “Good as Gold” — so turning it into real gold closes the loop perfectly. For more gaming and pop-culture collectible news, check out TechnoSports Gaming.

Not Just Gholdengo — Pikachu Gets Golden Too
The exhibition also features two life-size, display-only statues made of gold leaf: a 120 cm Gholdengo wrapped in roughly 730 sheets of gold leaf, and a 50 cm Pikachu covered in around 200 sheets. Neither of these giant pieces will be sold — only the small solid-gold Gholdengo figure is available to purchase. Fans Are Torn
Reaction online has been split — some praised the lore-accurate tribute to a coin-based Pokémon, while others called it “a fitting metaphor for how materialistic this franchise has become.” A popular fan suggestion: award the gold figure to Pokémon World Championship winners instead of selling it.
