Most MMOs give you a handful of professions and call it a day. Project Gorgon takes a radically different approach — it offers 48 trade skills, each levelable to 90, covering everything from crafting powerful gear to literally brewing ale. If you’ve just started and feel overwhelmed, that’s entirely normal. Here’s your no-fluff breakdown of every trade skill category and what they’re actually used for.

The Skills That Matter Most Early On

Project Gorgon

Alchemy is the first trade skill most new players should invest in. It’s a combat utility skill that allows you to craft potions, ointments, and poisons — learned by acquiring the ‘Basics of Alchemy’ book on Anagoge Island. Grab it before you leave the starting zone.

Blacksmithing is the backbone of gear progression. It allows you to improve existing armor rather than simply craft new pieces, and can be learned from Tadion, Kodan, Falkrin Overstrike, Solgribue, Dunahain Broadarm, and by acquiring Armor Patching at level 25. Most higher-tier crafting skills — Bladesmithing, Armor Smithing, Toolcrafting — require a solid Blacksmithing foundation first.

Transmutation and Augmentation are mid-game power multipliers. Transmutation allows you to reroll or change an existing modifier on a piece of gear, while Augmentation lets you extract enchantments from rings and necklaces — destroying the item but creating a new augmentation. Both are essential for endgame gear optimization.

The Weird Skills Worth Learning Anyway

This is a sandbox MMORPG that rewards curiosity over efficiency. Skills like Dying, Corpse Talking, Paleontology, or Performance may not matter early, but they unlock unique content later — nothing breaks if you try something odd and drop it later.

Toolcrafting is deceptively powerful. It allows you to craft better utility tools, like skinning and butchering tools, as well as gear using unusual materials — but requires level 30 Goblinese, level 20 Blacksmithing, and level 20 Carpentry. Invest early, profit late.

Saddlery is niche but satisfying. It allows you to craft horse gear like saddles, reins, and saddlebags — requiring Leatherworking level 50 and a conversation with Pasha and Felmer to learn.

How Trade Skill Leveling Works

Skills in Project Gorgon begin at level 0 and don’t appear in the skill panel until level 1 is earned by finding the appropriate NPC, quest, or item. Skills are increased simply by using them — the more you use a skill, the higher your level in it. There’s no grinding XP bars — every crafted item, every mined ore, every cooked meal levels your skills organically.

Most NPCs in Project Gorgon have services and special rewards when you gain enough favor with them — this is your primary progression system alongside skill leveling, not a traditional main quest line.
