A new exotic rifle is always worth chasing, and Steel and Sons is shaping up as a reliable primary DPS pick for rifle builds. With recent buffs to the Breaking Point and Aces & Eights gear sets, it has also become part of the current meta. Here’s how to get it and how to use it well.

How to Get It?

The best source is the Broken Rain Incursion, which arrived with the second Incursion on August 11, 2026. You have two chances at the rifle:

  • Boss kills: a 1% drop chance from Iris Steel and Marguerite Steel.
  • The final chest: the locked chest in the last room opens once per week with a Steel Creek Cypher Fragment, and it carries a 10% chance.

The weekly chest is your best shot, so plan repeat clears around the reset. The rifle is not sold by vendors, and it’s never guaranteed, so a bit of patience helps.

The Talent: Stack, Then Cash Out

The talent rewards precision. Here’s the loop:

  • Body shots add a stack to your target for 10 seconds, up to 4 stacks, each giving +4% amplified damage.
  • A headshot consumes all stacks for +11% amplified damage per stack.
  • Switching targets wipes your stacks, so stay locked on one enemy.
  • Destroying a weakpoint makes the enemy take +30% amplified damage from you for 5 seconds.

The efficient loop: break a weakpoint first, stack four body shots, then land a headshot to detonate everything. It’s satisfying once the rhythm clicks.

The Division 2

PvP note: the talent is weaker there, with shorter stacks, a lower cap and smaller bonuses.

Fixed Mods and the Best Reroll

The rifle comes with these mods locked in, and Tinkering can’t change them:

  • +15% Critical Hit Chance
  • +10 rounds magazine
  • +10% Weapon Handling
  • +10% Reload Speed

The one open slot is a randomized secondary stat. The strongest reroll is Damage To Targets Out of Cover (DTTOC), a multiplicative bonus that beats every other secondary option.

How to reroll:

  1. Buy the Steel and Sons recalibration blueprint from Inaya.
  2. Go to a crafting station.
  3. Reroll the secondary stat. Each attempt costs one Exotic Component.

Tips

  • Clear with a squad. Broken Rain is a tough four-player activity, and loot-sharing groups make farming smoother.
  • Farm every character. Each level 40 character can take a weekly chest chance.
  • Save components. Don’t reroll until you’re ready for DTTOC.
