What’s Happening During the Event?
For three hours, Zorua appears far more often in the wild, and you’ll get triple XP for catching Pokémon. Lure Modules last just one hour during the event, but they come with a special mechanic: from 2:00 p.m., Zorua has a very high chance of showing up at PokéStops with an active regular Lure. Lured Zorua still carry the boosted Shiny chance, and they can also have a Special Background. Take a few snapshots during the event too, since there’s a surprise waiting. Some guides also list an extra Special Trade, giving you two for the day.
The Shiny Question
Community Day Shiny odds are among the best you’ll see, and Pokémon GO Hub puts them at roughly 1 in 20 for this event. That means a decent session can yield a Shiny Zorua, and anyone who plays the full three hours has a real shot. Incense can also spawn Community Day Pokémon, and those can be Shiny too, so it’s worth activating one.
Why Zoroark Matters
Evolving Zorua into Zoroark costs 50 Zorua Candy, and the payoff is the exclusive Community Day move, Sucker Punch. If you want that move, evolve during the event window or shortly afterwards per the event rules. Trainers who’ve struggled to collect enough Candy will find this a great chance to stock up.
Special Research and Field Research
For US$1.99, the Zorua Community Day Special Research gives you additional Zorua encounters, with tasks that involve catching Zorua and Zoroark and using Berries. Field Research themed to the event is also available, with rewards like Stardust, Ultra Balls and more Zorua encounters. Tasks include catching 50 Pokémon and catching 5 Pokémon while in a Party.
Quick Tips to Make the Most of It
Stock up on Poké Balls and Berries before 2:00 p.m. Activate an Incense when you start, and pop a Lure at a busy PokéStop. Walk to areas with plenty of PokéStops and spawns, keep your storage free, and save your Candy for Zoroark’s evolution. Remember that all times are local, so check your own start time.
