If you’ve ever dreamed of building your own monster squad inside an MMO, the Final Fantasy XIV Beastmaster job is basically Pokémon in Eorzea — and it’s finally happening. Arriving in Patch 7.5 (Trail to the Heavens), Beastmaster is the second ever Limited Job added to FFXIV, and it’s unlike anything the game has offered before.
Here’s everything you need to know before you go taming Chimeras.

How to Unlock Beastmaster in FFXIV

Before you start wrangling Behemoths, you’ll need to tick these three boxes:
- ✅ Have at least one Level 50 Disciple of War or Magic
- ✅ Complete Main Scenario Quests up to patch 2.0 (A Realm Reborn)
- ✅ Have Dawntrail connected to your Square Enix account
Once those are met, a tutorial questline will walk you through the Beastmaster basics. It’s worth noting — as a Limited Job, Beastmaster cannot be used for Main Scenario Quests, Duty Roulettes, PvP, or Deep Dungeons, similar to Blue Mage.
How Beastmaster Gameplay Actually Works
This job is built around the Instinct System — a three-step loop that feels fresh even for FFXIV veterans:
Step 1 — Weaken: Find a tameable beast in the wild and reduce its health in solo combat.
Step 2 — Tame: Once weakened, add it to your Master’s Bestiary (think Pokédex — tracking lore, attacks, and monster type).
Step 3 — Command: Deploy up to three beasts simultaneously, each with one or two unique abilities. Every combination creates a different playstyle.
Notable tameable monsters confirmed include Goobbue, Coeurl, Chimera, and Behemoth — yes, you can drop a meteor on enemies if you bring the right one.
The Crucible of the Unbroken — Beastmaster’s Exclusive Mode
Unlike Blue Mage’s training arena, Beastmaster gets its own dedicated single-player experience called the Crucible of the Unbroken — a multi-stage battle gauntlet with unique rewards and escalating difficulty. Yoshida described it as completely unlike any other duty in FFXIV so far.
