The Emperor demands your attention — and your best loadout. 3Emperor Calus is back in Pantheon 2.0, Destiny 2’s permanent boss gauntlet introduced with the Monument of Triumph update. The Calus Resplendent activity is the first of two Pantheon activities available at launch, featuring three iconic Leviathan-era bosses back-to-back: Gahlran, Argos, and Calus himself.3 The Pantheon variant is the same encounter with everything turned up: more adds, tighter timers, and a scoring system that punishes slow teams. If you’re loading in blind, you will wipe. Repeatedly. This guide covers every phase, the optimal loadouts, and the one mistake that guarantees a team wipe.

9 Unlike its 2024 predecessor, it is now a permanent game mode. The activity is a raid boss gauntlet: you and your fireteam fight several iconic raid bosses back-to-back, each with escalating power handicaps and modifiers.

Pantheon 2.0 Rollout Schedule

9 At launch, two activities are immediately available with a curated boss lineup each. The third activity — the full gauntlet — unlocks the first Saturday after June 9. Weekly rotators with individual bosses begin the following Tuesday at reset. Bungie structured the Pantheon 2.0 rollout schedule precisely so you cannot complete everything on day one.

The Optimal Loadout — Before You Even Start

Destiny 2

3 The Calus Leviathan fight in Pantheon rewards teams that deal consistent burst damage during the DPS window and maintain survivability between phases.

Critical Loadout Tips

3 Monument of Triumph introduced Artifact 2.0 with full loadout saving. Save your Calus Pantheon loadout before entering. Swapping mid-encounter is not a plan. 9 Shot Caller modifier is active: landing multiple precision hits boosts damage. Precision builds are not optional, they are the answer to a question you did not know you were being asked.

Boss 1: Gahlran — The Deception

Gahlran is the first encounter in Calus Resplendent — a Crown of Sorrow boss that tests your team’s coordination with add management and crystal mechanics.

PhaseWhat to Do
Witch PhaseKill the Deception Witches on both sides — they drop Witch’s Blessing
Crystal PhaseUse the Blessing to destroy the crystal shielding Gahlran
DPS PhaseStack on Gahlran and unload — Linear Fusions shine here
Add ManagementCursed Thrall and Ogres spawn between phases — clear immediately

Key Tip: Only the player with Witch’s Blessing can damage the crystal. If the wrong player tries, nothing happens. Communicate who picks up the buff.

Boss 2: Argos — The Planetary Core

10 Argos needs a six-person fireteam. Split into two groups of three: defenders and runners. The split is not arbitrary: it maps directly to the orb mechanic.

Shield Phase

RolePlayersTask
10Defenders (3)Go to the plate matching Argos’s facing direction. Charge and fire craniums at the top orb above Argos.
10Runners (3)Distribute across the remaining two elemental orbs. Someone calls which of the three runners takes which element. Do this before the fight, not during it.

10 Communication collapses the fight. One person calls Argos’s facing direction every cycle. That is the only callout that matters during shield phase. Everything else is execution.

Ring Phase (Wipe Mechanic!)

10 After every damage phase, regardless of how many cycles you completed, Argos enters the Ring Phase. This is a hard wipe mechanic unless your team destroys two of Argos’s body parts before the Void blast fully charges.

StepAction
110Rings appear around Argos. Climb them for better angles. Target the white body parts: upper arms, armpits, hump.
210Shooting a body part turns it white to red. You must keep sustained damage on it to destroy it: burst damage alone will not register. Pick two parts, commit, do not switch.

Boss 3: Calus — The Final Emperor

This is the main event. 3This is the Leviathan raid version of Calus. Two groups, a shadow realm, and a fat emperor who wants to pull you into his face.

Phase 1: Team Split

Your fireteam is split into two groups — a Throne Room team and a Shadow Realm team. This happens automatically when you step on the teleporter pads.

TeamLocationPrimary Task
Throne Team (3)Calus’s Throne RoomKill matching Psions, break shield, clear adds
Shadow Team (3)Shadow Realm (projection)Call out symbols, shoot skulls, build DPS buff

Phase 2: The Symbol Mechanic

This is where most LFG teams wipe. The communication must be flawless.2 In the shadow realm, Calus’s head will start inhaling an attack that sucks you into his mouth, and in order not to get pulled in, you need to stay inside the barrier. Also, there’ll be symbols appearing on Calus’s forehead. The team in the shadow realm needs to call out the symbols they see, because the only one that does not appear is the one the team in the throne room will need to focus on.

StepShadow TeamThrone Team
1Read 3 symbols on Calus’s foreheadListen for callouts
2Call out all 3 symbols seenIdentify the MISSING symbol
3Stay behind barrier — do NOT jump2Kill only the Psion standing on the missing symbol. If you get the wrong Psion, it will lead to a wipe.
42Deal with shielded Psions — they throw purple grenades that can knock you off the arena.Clear adds and prepare for DPS

⚠️ 3Jumping in the shadow realm pulls you into Calus’s face. You die. Don’t do it.

Phase 3: The Skull Shooting Phase (Force of Will)

2 After 4 waves in the Shadow Realm, Calus will start spitting skulls out of his mouth. Group up in the middle and use something with Arc to deal AoE damage. I would use Thunderlord or Riskrunner for that. The more skulls you shoot down, the higher your team’s DPS will be when it comes time to deal damage to Calus himself. This happens because every skull gives you the Force of Will buff.

Skull StacksDPS OutputResult
0–30 stacksLowMultiple damage phases needed
30–70 stacksMediumTwo-phase likely
70–100 stacksMaximumOne-phase possible

2 The idea here is to let Shadow Realm players get as many skulls as possible and only then bring them back by breaking the shield. Have them stack at least x70 Force of Will buff before summoning them. 3 The goal in a Pantheon high-score run is to get 100 stacks before the damage phase for maximum output.

Phase 4: DPS — Destroy the Emperor

2 Back in the Throne room, at a certain point, Calus will put on a shield and start attacking players directly, eventually causing a wipe. That’s when you need to break his shield. But as soon as it breaks, this will cause all players in the Shadow Realm to be brought back into the Throne Room.

Once everyone is in the Throne Room, the DPS window opens.

DPS StepAction
1Well of Radiance + Ward of Dawn on the first platform
2All players stand on symbol platforms and unload with Linear Fusions
32You don’t have to start with the rightmost platform and rotate left every time. The platform order doesn’t actually matter. But if you just move from one platform to another in the same order, that’s all you need. You just don’t want to jump to a random one and then forget which one is inactive mid-fight.
42If you deal enough damage in this phase to make Calus enter the final stand, just deal the final portion of damage to finish him. If not, some players will return to the Shadow realm and repeat the process.

Common Mistakes That Cause Wipes

MistakeWhat HappensHow to Avoid
3Killing the wrong PsionThrone Room kills only the symbol called from the shadow realm. Kill the wrong one and the cycle resets with zero stacks. Embarrassing.Double-confirm callouts before shooting
3Jumping in the shadow realmIt teleports you into Calus’s face. You die.Never jump — strafe only
3Killing all Psions at onceThey drop heavy ammo, but each kill summons a yellow-bar enemy. Kill them on a schedule, not on sight.Kill only the matching Psion
Low skull stacksDPS too weak for one-phaseStack to 70+ minimum
Breaking shield too earlyPulls Shadow team back with low stacksWait for Shadow team’s callout
Wrong heavy weaponRockets deal reduced damage3Linear Fusion Rifles for heavy DPS. Calus resists legendary rockets. Witherhoard plus Well of Radiance is the reliable foundation.

3 Two skilled Titans running bubbles can hold four players in the shadow realm to stack this efficiently. For speedrun-focused teams, running 4 in Shadow Realm maximizes skull stacking and enables consistent one-phases.

Quick Reference — The 60-Second Callout Script

For LFG teams who need a fast rundown:

  1. Split into Throne and Shadow teams — 3 and 3
  2. Shadow reads symbols — call out ALL three you see
  3. Throne identifies the missing symbol — kills ONLY that Psion
  4. Shadow stays behind lip — DO NOT JUMP
  5. Shadow shoots skulls — stack Force of Will to 70+ minimum
  6. Throne breaks Calus’s shield — ONLY when Shadow says “ready”
  7. Everyone DPS — Well + Bubble on platforms, Linear Fusions, rotate platforms together
  8. If not dead — Shadow team goes back, repeat from step 2
  9. If final stand — dump everything, he’s almost done

Pro Tips for a Clean One-Phase

  • Thunderlord or Riskrunner for skull shooting — Arc AoE is unmatched
  • Call out symbols in order — “Axes, Sun, Cup” not “I see axes and stuff”
  • Witherhoard on Calus FIRST — then swap to Linear Fusion for sustained DPS
  • Rotate platforms together — going to random platforms causes confusion and wasted DPS time
  • Don’t be greedy with DPS windows — if the platform is about to expire, move. Don’t die standing on a dead plate.
  • Save your Super for DPS — don’t blow it on adds if Calus is about to enter damage phase
