Why February 27th Is Special

These classic remakes of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green will be available to download from Nintendo eShop after the conclusion of the Pokémon Presents beginning Friday, February 27, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. PST Minecraft — right on Pokémon Day, celebrating the franchise’s monumental 30th anniversary.
New and returning players can celebrate 30 years of Pokémon by exploring the Kanto region and reuniting with some of their favourite Pokémon and characters in their original settings.
What Exactly Are FireRed & LeafGreen?
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen originally came out in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance. They served as full remakes of the original first-generation games that came out in Japan in 1996. The remakes took the original story of the Kanto region and expanded on it with full colour, greater world detail, more post-game content, and modern gameplay features. UBOS
These Switch ports are described as faithful to the originals — same Kantonian charm, now on your TV or handheld Switch screen.
What’s New on Switch?
The eShop listing confirms the titles support local wireless (but not online multiplayer), and Pokémon HOME support will be added in the future.
