Snow Bricks: A Cooler Way to Build
Snow Bricks are a new decorative block made from snow. Here’s what to know:
- Crafting: Place four Snow Blocks in a 2×2 square.
- Variants: There’s a slab, stair and wall version.
- No stonecutter shortcut: Slabs, stairs and walls can’t be made in a stonecutter, so you’ll need a crafting table.
- No chiseled version: Unlike some other brick sets, this one doesn’t have one.
- Mining: Snow Bricks only drop themselves if you mine them with a shovel. Use anything else, and you’ll get nothing.
The block is also renewable and stacks to 64. If you love igloos, winter villages or snowy castles, it’s an easy upgrade.
The Cold Sulfur Cube: Frost Walker, but Make It a Mob
The headline feature is a new Cold archetype for the Sulfur Cube. It belongs to the special archetype category and works like this:
- How to get it: The cube absorbs a Blue Ice block.
- Core behavior: It shares the Fast Sliding archetype’s properties, but it is buoyant, so it floats.
- The frosty trick: As it moves, it replaces water below it with a disk of Frosted Ice, much like the Frost Walker enchantment.
- The catch: Frosted Ice only forms if there are air blocks above the water, and only if the cube starts moving while it’s on the ground.
It’s a fun way to build quick ice bridges across lakes, and you get a cute floating companion in the bargain.
Snow Bricks Meet Sulfur Cubes
Snow Bricks also belong to the Fast Sliding archetype. If you feed one to a Sulfur Cube, it becomes the hockey-puck type. That ties the new block neatly into the mob’s mechanics.
Other Changes and Fixes
Snapshot 6 also includes:
- New ambient sounds for Ice Crystals.
- A fix for small sulfur cubes that split from bucketed cubes despawning (MC-308361).
- Smaller fixes that reports mention include villager trade prices reverting from 1.21.11, ice cave spawn bugs and brittle ice interactions.
- Technical updates including new default JVM memory flags and several crash fixes.
Data pack creators also get a new item tag, #sulfur_cube_archetype/cold, listing items that turn a cube into the Cold archetype.
Should You Try It?
Snapshots are early test builds, so back up your world and try them in a separate save. If you like building or messing with mobs, Snapshot 6 is a fun one to explore. The ice and snow theme feels timely, and the new blocks open up some neat designs.
